In this workshop, you will learn how to design your online course with all of the elements that have proven to attract and retain students. Second Life provides an opportunity to use simulation in a safe environment to enhance experiential learning, allowing individuals to practice skills, try new ideas, and learn from their mistakes. Students and educators can work together in Second Life from anywhere in the world as part of a globally networked virtual classroom environment. Using Second Life as a supplement to traditional classroom environments also provides new opportunities for enriching existing curricula. In this workshop, participants will learn practical aspects of Second Life such as how to change the appearance of your avatar, how to navigate around, how to pick things up, and how to set up and manage a group as well as explore possible applications of Second Life for the traditional and online classroom.

Minimal effort is required for audio storage of your lectures and help sessions that will give your students constant access to your expertise in any field.  In addition, video pod-casting, while more difficult, gives the added impact of every topic you teach in your course. Finally, an extension of the use of MP3 and MP4 files allow your school to enhance any on line courses currently being offered. Use e-Portfolios to Evaluate Student Development. A powerful tool for student reflection, evaluation, and presentation, e-Portfolios let users showcase their work as well as demonstrate achievement of institutional standards. E-Portfolios can include supporting files of various formats (pictures, text, video), evaluations, reflections, recommendations, evidence of General Education competencies, writing samples, projects prepared for class or extracurricular activities, and evidence of creativity and performance. Content management system allows users to store and manage content more effectively while increasing collaboration and to manage and share files by using permissions and passes.
